TYLER, Texas — A new type of cuisine will be coming to the old Chili's location on Loop 323 in Tyler.
88 Tyler Korean BBQ & Sushi has filed building permits, including one for remodel renovation, to occupy the former Chili's, located at 531 W Southwest Loop 323, according to the city of Tyler permits website. The permit was filed late last year.
In 2022, Black Bear Diner, based out of Redding, California, applied for a permit at that location; however, the diner chain decided to step away from the project. Chili's closed the original spot to move to 6201 S Broadway Ave.
According to Master Class, Korean barbecue is a method of cooking cuts of marinated meats at a gas or charcoal grill built into the table. Some of the marinated flavors could include soy sauce, toasted sesame oil and gochujang before grilling the meat.
"In Korean cuisine, the experience of making barbecue right at your table can be just as important as the flavor of the dish itself," the Master Class article said.
There is currently no information about an opening date.
