KILGORE — Kilgore College has named Willie Gooden as the school's new head football coach and will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. on Thursday to make the announcement.
The announcement will take place on the second floor of the McLaurin Administration Building.
According to the college, Gooden is an 11-year member of the coaching staff and former Ranger football player.
He was named interim head coach in December 2018 when J.J. Eckert accepted the head coaching position at Northeastern State University (NSU) in Oklahoma.
Gooden spent three seasons as the defensive line coach at NSU before he began coaching at KC.
He started playing career at KC in 2000 and earned all-conference recognition in 2000-01. He was also a part of the undefeated 2001 Ranger football team.
Gooden will take over as the college’s 16th head coach since the inception of football at KC in 1935.
