KILGORE, Texas — The Kilgore City Council has approved an official declaration declaring Kilgore a “Purple Heart City” to honor the sacrifices of Kilgore citizens who were injured or killed in combat while serving the armed forces.
At a recent council meeting, former City Manager Josh Selleck said signs bearing the Purple Heart City designation will be ordered and put up in several locations around town.
Councilmember and Kilgore Lions Club member Randy Renshaw said most of the signs had been ordered and will either be added to “welcome” signposts around town or given their own posts. He added the signs will be posted at locations on Stone Road, FM 2276, FM 2204 and Texas 42 South.
