TYLER, Texas — Hundreds of honeybees were delivered Tuesday morning to their new home at the Goodman-LeGrand Museum in Tyler for Pollinator Week.
The bees were originally at the Tyler Rose Garden. There is a honey bee observation hive, where visitors can open the cabinet and watch the bees work. The official opening of the new hive will be at the city of Tyler's fourth annual Bee Day in the Garden event.
"This observation hive is built so that you can observe how they actually live and work with other bees and how they build their comb and all what they do inside the hive," said bee handler David Jones.
The Bee Day in the Garden event will be held Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Goodman-LeGrand Museum. There will be vendors, fun activities for children, talented face painters, food trucks, and the guess of honor - the honeybees.
People will get to learn more about beekeeping with educational workshops. The city of Tyler is one of 13 cities in Texas that is a Bee City USA, under the Keep Tyler Beautiful program. As an affiliate, the mission is to educate and raise awareness about all pollinator species, including honey bees.
