TYLER, Texas — New Year's Eve is almost here - it’s a time to relax and celebrate, but it’s just as important to do it responsibly.
One East Texas restaurant is hosting a New Year's celebration and is gearing up to look out for their guests.
"So, we are doing a firework show out on the patio. It’s gonna be really fun, we have drinks, food, an open patio, beautiful skies," Javi's server Kaleb Diaz said.
Javi’s in Tyler is getting ready to host a fireworks show right outside their restaurant on New Year's Eve beginning at 8 p.m.
Historically, the holiday celebration is often directly related to drunk driving.
According to a study from the Sargon Law Group, the number of overnight fatal crashes between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day spikes by 136%, as compared to an average night.
This is one of the reasons why Javi’s will be ensuring their guests are served responsibly during the festivities.
"We always try to monitor how much we’re giving the guests, and we try to limit it to at least one drink per hour, trying to look at all the signs of intoxication," Diaz said.
Diaz also mentioned Javi’s will typically limit their guests to five total drinks to ensure that they’re not endangering themselves or others.
