HAWKINS, Texas — Jarvis Christian University officially welcomed its 13th president during an investiture ceremony Thursday morning.
President Dr. Glenell M. Lee-Pruitt became president of Jarvis on July 1, 2023. But university staff came together Thursday to ring in a new era of the institution's 112 years of history.
"It is customary, however, that after the sitting president is in office for six to nine months," Lee-Pruitt said. "They are then what we call invested. They go through a formal ceremony."
Lee-Pruitt is the second female president of Jarvis Christian University.
She said she was honored to have the first woman president of Jarvis Christian University, Dr. Sabetha Jenkins, make the transition from her PhD robe to my presidential robe.
"I am so blessed to have family and friends who love me and who support me," Lee-Pruitt said. "And I have people here from all over the country who took the time out of their lives to come and just say, 'Glenell, we're very proud of you and we stand with you.' And for me, that's phenomenal. I am going to give Jarvis university the best that I am. Because at Jarvis only the best will do!"
