Tyler ISD's Jack Elementary students lead school in Patriot Day ceremony

TYLER, Texas — The rain did not stop the Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary students from leading their annual "Patriot Day" ceremony.

The day honors the victims and first responders who passed on 9/11, including the namesake of the school, who was on board the flight that flew into the Pentagon.

The ceremony had the students lead in a pledge of allegiance to the United States and Texas and performing the national anthem. The event concluded with a performance of Taps by a staff member. The event was broadcasted to nearly 800 students and staff within the school.

“Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary is a shining example of the hidden gems found in Tyler and East Texas,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said. “Much like the community it serves, the school’s culture mirrors the spirit of its Patriot mascot, embracing self-accountability and responsibility. When every student, parent, and staff member commits to putting in the effort, exceptional outcomes are the result.”

"Patriot Day" has been an annual ceremony since the school's opening in 2007.

“Every year, it is a privilege to honor the namesake of Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary on Patriot Day,” said Principal Brett Shelby.

Jack grew up going to schools in Tyler ISD, and became the school's namesake for his work of over 20 years at the Pentagon. Outside of "Patriot Day" and their mascot, the school's colors are also red, white and blue in his honor.

“We take great pride in learning about his service to our country, his leadership, and the lasting legacy he has left for future generations," Shelby said.
