LINDALE, Texas — Officials responded to a major crash involving a tanker truck that led to a large oil fuel spill in Smith County.
According to the Lindale Police Department, the crash occurred on Hwy. 69, in front of Brookshire's in Lindale around 6 a.m., causing Hwy. 69 to close in both directions from South S. to Eagle Spirit Dr.
Police tell CBS19 the driver of a truck pulling a storage trailer crossed the roadway and clipped another vehicle. The second vehicle then hit the tanker, which caused it to overturn. More than 5,000 gallons of diesel spilled in the crash, with some spilling into a nearby creek.
As of 12:39 p.m., the oil spillage has been cleared with assistance from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Smith County Emergency Management Team and Lonestar Hazmat. Officials reopened Hwy. 69 around 12 p.m. with the approval of TCEQ.
Two occupants were removed from the truck and taken to a local hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time. The incident is under investigation.
