VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Rangers are investigating after an officer-involved shooting Monday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 4:15 a.m., officials responded to the scene of an officer-involved shooting at Exit 533 off Interstate 20 in Van Zandt County.
There is no threat to the public and no officers were injured.
The Van Zandt County District Attorney's Office says the events spurred from a high-speed chase that started in Grand Prairie.
Around 3:25 a.m. the chase, initiated by Grand Prairie police and later by the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, entered into Van Zandt County where VZCSO deputies, Canton police and Edgewood police units responded.
The VZCSO says the suspect vehicle was traveling at speeds up to 95 miles per hour. As vehicle approached State Highway 19, Canton police deployed spike strips and successfully spiked the tires. The suspect vehicle lost control and came to a stop in a drainage ditch between the Colfax exit ramp and the service road. The VZCSO says the suspect refused to exit the the vehicle.
"As a VZCSO deputy and a Edgewood officer approached the vehicle, the suspect pointed a firearm in the direction of the officers and they fired their weapons and were able to stop the threat," the VZCSO said in a statement. "Officers immediately rendered lifesaving measures and suspect was transported to a local hospital."
