HARRISON COUNTY, Texas — The Harrison County Sheriff's Office arrested a truck driver who was allegedly carrying a large amount of marijuana.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies stopped the truck at about 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 29 while it was northbound on Highway 59 for an equipment violation.
The deputies reached out to the Department of Transportation for a truck inspection while interviewing the driver, Brandon Beck.
The deputies called in a K-9 unit after becoming suspicious of Beck's story.
The K-9, named Hank, gave a positive alert to narcotics.
The sheriff's office says deputies searched the truck and found it was carrying laundry detergent. However, after further inspection, deputies discovered bundles of what they believed to be marijuana.
“After unloading the cargo of the semi-trailer, 15 bundles were located, resulting in a seizure of approximately 400 pounds of Marijuana,” Chief Deputy B.J. Fletcher said.
Beck, of Chicago, was arrested and booked into the Harrison County Jail for possession of marijuana.
Fletcher says Hank's contributions to crime fighting in the county have proven him to be a vital member of the sheriff's office.
“We are so proud that our community has stood behind us to provide our office with much needed top quality K-9s. This is the second incident in the last six weeks that our new K-9’s have shown our community what they can do," Deputy Fletcher said.
