GREGG COUNTY, Texas — Election results continue to be counted across the country.
Gregg County, Pct. 1, will not be dry anymore. The sale of alcohol will be legalized in the coming weeks.
"If anybody wants to have a drink it's their business, resident RJ said.
Gregg County’s Pct. 1 is the only dry precinct in the county, but that will change soon.
"I kind of want to give the community what they want for this area," Lil Tommy's Gas & Go co-owner Tony Holyfield said.
Tony Holyfield is the co-owner of Lil Tommy’s Gas and Go. He worked to give the community what they wanted, by starting a petition with his brother after a lot of his customers come in looking to buy alcohol.
This petition will allow the sale of alcohol in Pct. 1 of Gregg County. They fell short with signatures twice, but the third time was the charm.
"Now restaurants will be able to move outside the city limits and be able to serve alcohol that should increase tax revenue. Of course, our beer sales will also increase our tax revenue here," Holyfield said.
Gregg County Elections Administrator Jennifer Briggs says it looks as though Proposition A will be passed. According to Gregg County election results, more than 10,000 people voted for it, and 3,000 voted against.
"Once we canvass, we canvass on the 19th, I notify the Secretary of State and the T-A-B-C and let them know that we have a successful election and that we've canvassed, and then they're good to go for selling alcohol," Briggs said.
