GILMER, Texas — The Gilmer Police Department responded to a large fire Tuesday in the Gilmer-area.
According to the GFD, the wildland fire burned about 43-acres. The Texas A&M Forest Service were called to the scene to help fight and prevent the spread of the fire.
The GFD says firefighters in Gilmer and around the area have responded to a number of grass fires in the past days. The fires are particularly dangerous because the grass is dry, despite the cool weather and recent rain.
Firefighters urge if anyone attempts to do an outdoor burn to use extreme caution and take every necessary threat to keep the fire from getting out of control.
