East Texas man gets 30 years for killing Longview man with claw hammer

An affidavit said Graham was arrested after blood evidence, mobile phone records and a finger print on drug paraphernalia linked to Victor Herrera's death.

LONGVIEW, Texas — A Gladewater man who killed a Longview man using a claw hammer in October 2022 was sentenced to 30 years.

Preston Wade Graham, 24, pleaded guilty to murder in connection with the Oct. 11, 2022 death of Victor Hugo Herrera. He then received 30 years in prison, according to Gregg County judicial records. 

Herrera was hospitalized after he was found with life-threatening injuries at a residence in the 1000 block of Baxley Lane on Oct. 10. He was pronounced dead the next day. 

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Longview News-Journal, Graham was arrested after blood evidence, mobile phone records and a finger print on drug paraphernalia linked him to the death of Herrera. Documents say Herrera was hit in the head with a claw hammer.
