ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 13-year-old girl who attends Tyrone Middle School in St. Petersburg reportedly shot herself on a school bus Tuesday morning.
In a news release, the St. Petersburg Police Department said officers are investigating the incident at the intersection of 49th Street North and 18th Avenue. Twenty students were on the bus at that time.
The girl was the only one on the bus who had a gun and no other students were involved or hurt, police said.
The 13-year-old has been taken to All Children's Hospital. Police said she is stable and conscious.
Some of the remaining kids were taken to school on another bus while others were picked up by parents.
Investigators determined the girl brought the gun onto the bus and are working to find out how she obtained the gun in the first place.
The investigation is ongoing, according to officers.
