Gilmer High grad, reporter commended for actions at Trump rally

A bullet hit Trump’s right ear. A rally-goer was killed, and two people were seriously injured.

GILMER, Texas — A 2016 Gilmer High School graduate and NBC News reporter shielded a fellow journalist from gunfire Saturday during the failed assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.

NBC News politics reporter Jake Traylor, son of former Gilmer High School football coach Jeff Traylor, was near the stage at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump, the San Antonio Express-News and NBC News reported.

A bullet hit Trump’s right ear. A rally-goer was killed, and two people were seriously injured.
