ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. —
Three German shepherds jumped into a St. Pete woman’s car while dropping her daughter off at day care Tuesday morning and would not get out until police arrived to help.
Kendra Clark explained she left her car’s front door open while walking her daughter into day care when the three dogs “came out of nowhere” and ended up between her and her car. That’s when Clark says one of the dogs approached her 1-year-old daughter.
“They came up behind me, so I grabbed my daughter and ran up towards the [car] door,” Clark said. The dogs ran in the same direction. “As soon as I said, ‘Don’t get in my car,’ they jumped in there.”
Clark’s 8-year-old daughter was in the back seat of the car at the time, so she said she quickly got both children to safety before asking for help.
Clark said the staff at the day care tried to lure the dogs out of her car using fish sticks and other kinds of food, but the three did not move. That’s when she said she called the police for help.

When officers with the St. Pete Police Department arrived, video from Clark’s Facebook page showed them getting two of the German shepherds out of the car, but the dog sitting in the driver’s seat was staying put.
“It would not move,” Clark said. “He almost bit the officer, and he was growling. He would not budge.”
At one point, the video showed the German shepherd lying down in the driver’s seat while officers attempted to coax the dog out of the car using a fish stick. The pup eventually exits the car and joins the other two dogs in a St. Pete Police cruiser.
The officers took the three dogs to Pinellas Animal Urgent Care, where they were cared for until the owner was found and brought them home safe, according to a Facebook post from SPPD.
