16-year-old detained in Mexico in connection to killings of 2 teens in Garland, police say

Amancio Anton Noriz was located Wednesday in Monterrey, Mexico, about 140 miles south of Laredo, according to a news release from the Laredo Police Department.

GARLAND, Texas — A 16-year-old boy wanted in connection to the killings of two other teens in Garland on Jan. 14 has been detained in Mexico and deported back to the U.S., police announced this week.

Amancio Anton Noriz was located Wednesday in Monterrey, Mexico, about 140 miles south of Laredo, according to a news release from the Laredo Police Department.

Police said Anton Noriz was then deported to the U.S., where Garland police had issued a "directive to apprehend" warrant for him in the deaths of two Wylie teens.

Ruben Santibanez Arzola, 17, and Alan Jesus Chavez, 18, were killed in a shooting in the 2300 block of West Buckingham Road in Garland on the afternoon of Jan. 14, police said.

Police this week issued a "directive to apprehend" warrant for Anton Noriz, who they "believed to be involved in the shooting," an updated news release said.

More information about Anton Noriz's alleged involvement in the shooting deaths has not been released.

Police had responded around 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 14 and found two victims, later identified as Arzola and Chavez, shot at the scene. Arzola and Chavez were taken to a hospital, where they died.

Officers learned that the shooter fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle, but more details were not released.

Noriz was transferred to Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center on Friday, according to Garland PD.
