GALVESTON, Texas — A 17-year-old boy drowned in Galveston on Friday.
According to the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, the teen was swimming near Pleasure Pier around 3 p.m. when friends told a lifeguard he couldn't get back in.
Responding rescue crews searched the water with swimmers and also with a Jet Ski. They found the teen about 30 minutes later and pulled him to shore while performing CPR.
He was immediately put into a waiting ambulance and rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Officials said red flag warnings were out for the beach on Friday and the water was rough.
