Mother of Galena Park ISD student says her son was denied bathroom access and sat in feces through school day

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said her child ended up sitting in feces throughout the school day.

GALENA PARK, Texas — A Galena Park ISD parent alleges her child was denied the ability to use the bathroom, sitting in feces throughout the school day.

She said she wants to see some kind of accountability, whether it’s training or addressing the allegations to ensure other students don’t experience this.

After a week of back and forth with the Galena Park ISD school district, she feels her pleas aren’t being taken seriously and she’s done waiting for answers.

“If I don’t do it and advocate for him, nobody’s going to do it,” the woman told us, while asking us to keep her anonymous.

This woman is talking about her son, who is a student at Williamson Elementary.

She feels the need to demand answers after she said he was denied access to the school bathroom on Monday.

“He had an accident," she said. "He pooped himself. From 9:15 in the morning up until when school was over, 3 p.m.  to 4 p.m., he sat in his own feces.”

After finding this out, his mother went to the school asking to talk to the leadership team, calling the fight for answers critical.

“This is the second time this has happened to me in this district," she said. "A year and a half ago my daughter, same thing. They denied her, her privilege, her right to go to the bathroom. She got a UTI and a kidney infection.”

She’s now had two meetings with a number of staff but not the teacher.

“During that meeting, the only thing they were doing was making excuses and justifying for the teacher," she said.

She said she did get a chance to speak with a school constable and filed a report with them.

“The school constable I spoke to she agreed she knew it was something bad that shouldn’t have happened," she said. "If it was me who sent my son to school like this, y’all would be quick to file a police report on me or call CPS on me.”

She said the constable told her in a week or two that she will have a meeting to get the full police report.

We have reached out to the school district about these allegations and to see if they have a plan to address it moving forward. When we hear back we will update with what they tell us.
