JACKSONVILLE, Texas — After over a decade of being closed, a country club in Jacksonville was bought by the city and has finally opened their doors for a new event center. The club house at the Cherokee Ranch, now known as The Jackson, has recently been renovated as a venue and could be a big economic driver for the city.
In 2022, the city bought the building from the Jacksonville Economic Development Corp., who own the golf course. In August 2023, they started making major renovations to the facility.
"We wanted to make it into a facility that the local citizens of Jacksonville can can enjoy, as well as folks coming from out of town to have an event here," said Daniel Seguin, Jacksonville director of communications and tourism.
Seguin noted The Jackson is funded by hotel occupancy taxes.
"Those fees here in Jacksonville helped fund the facility as well as of course, in revenue from folks booking the facility for events," Seguin said.
He added their primary goal is to bring events that are going to fill out the hotels in Jacksonville.
"Going to bring that tourism type folks they're going to eat in our restaurants. They're going to spend money in our shops. We want to be able to facilitate here within Jacksonville is those larger fundraising events, those larger weddings and something that people don't have to travel outside of town for," Seguin said.
Seguin said once completed, they will have a variety of services and space here for people. The date for the grand opening and tours of the venue will be posted soon.
