Firefighters rescue driver from vehicle submerged in creek off of Loop 281 in Longview

The driver, who was not injured, could not get out of the car because of the water level, the fire department said.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Longview first responders worked together Monday morning to rescue a driver who hydroplaned and landed in a creek off of Loop 281.

According to the Longview Fire Department, crews responded to a report of a vehicle in the water off of Loop 281 across from Best Buy around 9 a.m. Firefighters found a Chevrolet Tahoe left the roadway, traveled down the embankment and landed in the creek about 20 feet below the level of the road.

The creek was full of water and the Tahoe was partially submerged. The driver, who was not injured, could not get out of the car because of the water level, the fire department said.

Using protected life vests, firefighters made their way to the vehicle, placed the driver in a life vest and safely got the driver to higher ground. Officials believe he hydroplaned and lost control, causing him to leave the roadway.
