WINONA, Texas — An East Texas firefighter has died following an off-duty crash.
According to the Winona Volunteer Fire Department, Lt. Joseph Boehm, 29, was killed in a wreck that occurred Saturday night.
It is with heavy and broken hearts we share the unexpected off-duty death of Lieutenant Joseph Boehm.
According to the preliminary investigation, Joseph Boehm, 29, of Tyler was traveling north on FM 757 and Harold Johnson 39, of Winona and Faith Warren, 37, of Flint, were traveling west on FM 2767.
Boehm allegedly did not stop at the intersection of FM 757 and FM 2767 and caused for Johnson's vehicle to collide with Boehm.
Due to the impact of the collision, Joseph Boehm, 29, of Tyler, was pronounced dead on the scene by DPS.
Both Johnson and Warren were transported to a local hospital for non-incapacitant injuries.
The WVFD says Boehm had been a member of the department since 2021 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2023.
"He was awarded Rookie of the year his first year of service, and firefighter of the year the last two years in a row," the WVFD said. "He leaves behind his loving wife, three children, extended family members, and and his firefighter family."
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb, 22, at Stewart Funeral Home in Tyler.
