One dead, another in critical condition following two-vehicle crash in Upshur County

UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas — Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash in Upshur County on Friday morning. 

DPS troopers were called to the scene at 8:36 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the at the intersection of SR-300 and FM-726 in Upshur County.  

The preliminary report indicates the driver of a 2003 Toyota Avalon was traveling westbound on FM-726 and disregarded the stoplight at the intersection of SR-300. The Toyota traveled onto SR-300 and was struck by a 2014 Peterbilt truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer that was traveling northwest on SR-300.

The driver of the Peterbilt was identified as Allen Scott Jr., 48, of Kilgore. Scott was transported to Longview Regional Medical Center in stable condition. 

The driver of the Toyota was identified as Regena D. Avila, 52, of Gilmer.  Avila was pronounced at the scene by Judge Manes and was taken to McWhorter Funeral Home in Gilmer.  A passenger in her vehicle, Aaron L. Dorsey, 32, of Gilmer was transported to UT-Health East Texas – Tyler in critical condition.
