BONHAM, Texas — Two escaped inmates are now back in custody after breaking out of Fannin County Jail on Saturday night, officials have confirmed.
The county jail annex they escaped from is located on County Road 4200 on the southeast side of Bonham, which is located about an hour and a half northeast of Dallas, officials said. The Fannin County Office of Emergency Management said the inmates were wearing gray sweats when they were seen on video running southeast from the jail and into a wooded area Saturday night.
The inmates, Raymond Ross and Ramon Perez, were seen heading into a wooded area around 9:15 p.m. Saturday after escaping custody from the south annex of the county jail in Bonham, according to a release from the Fannin County Office of Emergency Management.
On Wednesday, officials confirmed to WFAA that Perez turned himself into Bryan County Sheriff's Office officials in Oklahoma. Perez will be extradited back to Fannin County.
Also on Wednesday, at approximately 8:30 a.m. Ross – the man with tattoos on his face – was spotted trying to flag down a car, according to police. Instead of stopping, however, police said that driver called 911. Security footage also showed Ross walking through backyards in the same vicinity about 45 minutes earlier on Wednesday.
Working on those tips, police then engaged in a ground search in the area, and asked residents to stay indoors. For the safety of its students, Bonham ISD also went into lockdown Wednesday as officers searched the area.
Shortly before 5 p.m., the Fannin County TX Office of Emergency Management shared on social media that Ross had been taken into custody.
The county officials said Ross was initially in custody on charges of evading arrest, drug possession and a felon in possession of a gun. Perez was initially in custody on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to the Office of Emergency Management.
