TYLER, Texas — Not only are local restaurants and bars being, but locally-owned sporting goods stores, as well, amid the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
Tyler Athletics has been in business for 17 years in Tyler and now have a location in Longview.
The company is known for making little league uniforms and letter jacket patches, selling athletic equipment and sponsoring local teams on their quest to sports glory.
"Ninety percent of our business is made up of schools and sports leagues, all of which are currently shut down," Tyler Athletics said in a statement. "We are a locally, family-owned business in Tyler, Texas. that has worked hard to keep its doors open for the last 17 years."
That's why Tyler Athletics has opened an online store promoting how East Texas' faith will overcome any fear that's out there.
"Like many of you, we understand the seriousness of this outbreak, but we also are growing tired of the fear tactics being forced on everyone. So, we decided recently to start making our company shirts with the slogan, 'FAITH OVER FEAR - SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES'."
The company says they have received numerous requests for the shirts, so they decided to open the online portal for anyone who would like to purchase one. They are also offering decals and hats.
"All products purchased will be shipped within seven days going priority mail with tracking information," the company said. "Thanks again for your support. And a reminder to all that in these tough times, shop local and support a locally-owned business that is made up of your friends, family and community members. They are the first ones in line to help out when someone in the community falls on hard times or might be fighting illness. They are first in line to buy ads from your local sports programs. They are a vital part of your community, but they can't survive without your support as well. God Bless!"
The company is also hoping to bring a smile to the faces of high school seniors who are experiencing this unique situation.
They are selling Seniors 2020 shirts, but taking a page from FRIENDS - The one where they were quarantined.
