TYLER, Texas — Just like humans, animals need their nails trimmed on a regular basis - or in a giraffe's case, their hooves trimmed.
In the wild, giraffes naturally wear down their hooves from walking on the hard ground.
To keep the animals happy and healthy, the Caldwell Zoo employees have taken initiative to trim their hooves.
In order to reduce stress, giraffes are trained to willingly get their hooves trimmed using positive reinforcement to present their feet to the keepers.
