AUSTIN, Texas — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has extended an existing Weather Watch for Texas.
ERCOT says the watch, which was initially issued for Monday, Jan. 15-Wednesday, Jan. 17, is to due to the expected extreme cold weather, as well as the the possibility for higher electrical demand and lower reserves. They have now added Sunday, Jan. 14 to the Weather Watch window.
However, ERCOT says grid conditions are expected to be normal.
"ERCOT continues to monitor conditions closely and will deploy all available tools to manage the grid, continuing a reliability-first approach to operations," ERCOT said.
According to ERCOT, in January 2023, peak demand was was 65,632 MW,. The all-time peak demand record was set on Aug. 10, 2023, at 85,508 MW
"ERCOT encourages everyone to sign up for grid condition notifications through the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS),"ERCOT said. "Texans can also monitor real-time and extended grid conditions at ercot.com."
