ERCOT announces new communication tool to inform people of changing electric grid conditions

Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS) is a part of ERCOT’s ongoing effort to be more open and transparent.

AUSTIN, Texas — Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the state agency that oversees the electrical grid for a significant portion of Texas, announced a new tool for giving information about grid conditions amid changing summer weather.

Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS) is a part of ERCOT’s ongoing effort to be more open and transparent. This announcement comes after the addition of the 6-Day Supply and Demand Forecast and Fuel Mix dashboards available on the ERCOT webpage.

“TXANS will deliver clear and reliable notifications ahead of significant weather conditions where high demand on the grid is possible,” said Pablo Vegas, ERCOT President and CEO.  “Keeping Texans informed earlier adds a new level of awareness on grid conditions and any public action that may be needed.”

The notification system will introduce the ERCOT Weather Watch, which is meant to give the public an earlier notification three to five days ahead of possible higher demand.

More information can be found at ercot.com/txans. People can sign up to receive TXANS email notifications and updates from the new webpage.

These TXANS notifications do not indicate emergency grid conditions are expected.
