VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas — An East Texas woman has been arrested in Mexico for alleged sex crimes against children.

According to the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office, on Sunday, April 14, officials were alerted to a possible child sexual assault in rural Van Zandt County.

"Deputies took immediate action to ensure the safety of the children from the home in cooperation with Child Protective Services," the VCSO said.

The next day, investigators arranged a forensic interview with the Van Zandt Children’s Advocacy Center for the victim which revealed two suspects.

"Before the investigator could contact the suspects to set up interviews, the suspects fled from Van Zandt County," the VCSO said.

Warrants were issued for Randy Wood, Sr., and Joyce Wood for continuous sexual assault of a child under 14 years of age.

On Thursday, April 18, federal agents informed investigators Randy Wood, Sr., had taken his own life in Chihuahua City, Mexico. Joyce Wood was arrested by Mexican authorities and deported back to Texas through El Paso.

On April 29, Joyce Wood was brought back to Van Zandt County and was booked into the Van Zandt County Jail on $250,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
