TEXARKANA, Texas — An East Texas woman is behind bars after police say she shot her mother's boyfriend in the face.
According to the Texarkana Texas Police Department, officers were called to reports of a shooting in the 1600 block of W. 16th St. around 8:30 p.m., Wednesday.
When police arrived on scene, they say they found a 61-year-old man had been shot in the face once by his girlfriend's daughter, Ashley Gearlds, 34.
"We are still investigating, but the shooting appears to have been the result of some type of argument between the two of them," the TTPD said.
Gearlds was arrested at the scene and booked into the Bi-State Jail for aggravated assault with a weapon causing serious bodily injury and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and is stable.
