East Texas woman gets 5 years in prison for shooting at, releasing her dogs on contractors fixing her home

She fired several shots at the workers and one of them was bitten by one of the dogs, the district attorney's office said.

BROWNSBORO, Texas — A Brownboro woman was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday for shooting at and releasing her dogs on people working on her house.

Catherine Viola Fanciullo, 64, was found guilty of deadly conduct Wednesday following a jury trial in the 392nd District Court of Henderson County. Evidence presented to a jury showed deputies were called to an address in Brownsboro off of FM 314 about gunshots fired, according to the Henderson County District Attorney's Office

A man and his two sons told deputies they were hired to do some work on Fanciullo's house. They had been working there for about a month, but the men had not been paid so they packed their equipment and tried to leave. Fanciullo asked the workers to finish the job, but they refused and tried to leave, according to the DA's Office.

Fancuillo got a gun and released her dogs. She fired several shots at the workers and one of them was bitten by one of the dogs, the district attorney's office said.

After she was found guilty, the jury heard about an incident at the same residence when deputies found several animals like chickens, guineas, ducks and turkeys who had been without food or water for several days in pens. The animals were either dead or in poor condition, the DA's Office said.

The jury sentenced her to five years in prison and ordered her to pay a $10,000 fine.
