TYLER, Texas — A Tyler woman has been arrested for reportedly abandoning her dog at Lake Tyler.

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, on March 13, 2024, animal control was called to the 17600 block of Southpoint Rd., near Lake Tyler, after a puppy was found alone at Hill Creek Park on Lake Tyler.

The black and white pit bull-mix, was taken to the Smith County Animal Shelter where it was then posted on Facebook as being up for adoption. The SCSO says, Facebook users began tagging Megan Baldree, the presumed owner of the dog, in the comments.

The SCSO says when animal control contact Baldree to ask why the puppy was abandoned, Baldree said she gave the dog to a friend but would not provide the friend’s name. An investigator with the SCSO got in touch with Baldree who allegedly confessed to dumping the puppy at Hill Creek Park.
