MARSHALL, Texas — A Marshall ISD teacher accused of having an improper relationship with a high school student was arrested Saturday.
Margaret Claire Burris, 23, of Marshall, was charged with improper relationship between educator and student Saturday after an investigation into allegations of her exchanging inappropriate messages with a student, according to the Marshall Police Department.
Police said the investigation was brought to the department's attention on Wednesday. Richele Langley, superintendent of Marshall ISD, was made aware of the allegations through MISD School Board President Brad Burris.
After officers executed a search warrant on the student's phone, the forensic examination revealed text messages and photos were exchanged between Margaret Burris and the student, including some that police said were explicit.
Investigators then issued an arrest warrant for Margaret Burris, and she was then booked into the Harrison County Jail on the second-degree felony, police said. Records show she bonded out of jail on an $85,000 bond Saturday.
Marshall police added the investigation is in its early stages and additional charges could be filed against her. The department is asking those who may have additional information or evidence to come forward.

The district said the Marshall Police Department is investigating the accusations. The school's statement did not name Margaret Burris.
