East Texas student’s artwork chosen for Austin museum exhibit

Sofi Astrand said she wanted to create something that everyone could relate to.

HALLSVILLE, Texas — A Hallsville High School junior's watercolor has been selected as part of the 2024 Texas Art Education Association’s Youth Art Month Exhibition at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.

Sofi Astrand said she wanted to create something that everyone could relate to.

“My comfort medium when it comes to making art is watercolor,” she said. “I just like how it is so versatile, the way you can use it to create different patterns and different pieces. So, I wanted to create a piece that would kind of represent my hardships, and it’s something that I thought everybody could relate to."
