Elizabeth Cater was recognized at the Smith County Commissioners Court Tuesday as the court proclaimed May 14, 2024, as “Elizabeth Cater Day” in Smith County.

TYLER, Texas — An East Texas student was honored Tuesday for a project benefitting veterans.

Elizabeth Cater was recognized at the Smith County Commissioners Court Tuesday as the court proclaimed May 14, 2024, as “Elizabeth Cater Day” in Smith County.

Cater, a senior at Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Catholic School, was honored for creating a new barbecue cookout area for veterans to enjoy at CampV.

Cater received the Gold Award from the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas for the project, due to her service with the Girl Scout Troup 366.

CampV Executive Director Travis Gladhill said Cater went above and beyond, with the fundraising and donation of all the supplies and saved CampV  "quite a bit of money."

“She blew our socks off. We couldn’t be more proud of her. Elizabeth, today is your day. Thank you on behalf of everyone at CampV," Gladhill said.
