Semi driver accused of striking, killing East Texas student as they exited school bus arrested

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the student was struck and killed by an semi-truck as the child was getting off of the bus.

LIVINGSTON, Texas — The driver of a truck tractor semi-trailer accused of striking and causing the death of a 15-year-old East Texas student Thursday afternoon has been arrested. 

Gregory Jackson, 41, of Texarkana, has been charged with criminal negligent homicide in connection with the crash that killed a Livingston ISD student. Jackson was transported to the Polk County Jail, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

DPS said the student was struck and killed by an semi-truck on US Highway as the child was getting off of the bus.

The preliminary investigation revealed around 4:17 p.m., the Livingston ISD school bus was driving northbound on US 59 before proceeded to stop in an outside lane with flashing lights to escort a child off.

Behind the school bus was an Toyota passenger car that got struck by the semi-truck, leading it to collide with the student in the road.

According to the press release, the drivers of the semi-truck and passenger car were uninjured. The 15-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
