East Texas police sergeant, family lose home in fire

The family is in need of immediate assistance for temporary housing, clothing, essentials and repairs.

MARSHALL, Texas — Community members are helping out after an East Texas police sergeant and his family lost their home in a fire just days before Thanksgiving.

Marshall Police Department Sgt. Joe Chastain, his wife Maigen and their two young children lost their home Monday when the fire destroyed their house, according to a Facebook from the Marshall Police Officer's Association.

"Joe, his wife Maigen, and their two young children have lost so much — not just their home, but their sense of security," the post read. "As a family who has always been there for their community, it's now our turn to show up for them."

The post says the family is in need of immediate assistance for temporary housing, clothing, essentials and repairs as the fire destroyed much of their belongings.

All donations will go directly to the family to help them get back on their feet.

"Let’s come together and give back to the family who has always given so much to our community. Please donate today to help Sergeant Joe Chastain, Maigen, and their children rebuild their home and their lives," the post read.
