TYLER, Texas — An East Texas church and his loved ones are mourning the loss of a beloved pastor with over 30 years experience in ministry.
Dr. Jerard R. Mosley Sr. passed away at the age of 50 on Friday, Aug. 9, the Mosely family announced through a memorial card online. The card reads, "We loved you, but God loved you more. Till we meet again ..."
He served as the leader of North Star Missionary Baptist Church of Tyler, located at 1518 North Englewood Ave., since 2015. He first accepted the call to ministry in June 1993. He later preached his first sermon and became licensed in September of the same year, according to information from a speaking engagement at a Jarvis Christian College chapel service in 2018.
Mosley was a husband and a father of three children.
He graduated from John Tyler High School and Tyler Junior College with a sociology degree. He later earned a bachelor of science in sociology from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins. He received a masters of theological studies degree from Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology in 2001. Mosley earned doctorate from Houston Graduate School of Theology in Ministry in 2007, according to North Star's website.
His personal and professional objective was to fulfill the charge that he was given by God to preach His word, compel the lost to come to Jesus and have a meaningful occupation that utilizes his educational and life experiences, the church website reads.
Mosley began pastoring in 1995 at New Home Baptist Church of Gladewater. In March of that year, he was ordained at New Bethel Baptist Church in Tyler.
A GoFundMe has been created to support Pastor Mosely's son as he is set to attend Texas State University this year. You can donate here.
