MINEOLA, Texas — East Texas musician Gary Patrick and his wife recently came back home with two Josie Music Awards after a trip to Nashville.
He won Artist of the Year Folk in the Americana Male category and Vocalist of the Year in the Americana/Folk Male category. In addition to his win, Patrick performed in front of a sold-out CMA theatre.
He called the opportunity to perform an experience of a lifetime.
"People were just tuned in and listening and reacting. It's beautiful," Patrick said.
He recalled that he did not think his name would be called that night.
"I mean just to be nominated was an honor enough for me, and they call my name. I had a lot of friends there, and it was a sweet moment for them that they've followed me through my whole life and career," he said. "But then they call my name again, and I just it's surreal to be on that stage and to step into the circle."
He thanked his wife and all of his family members who have supported him during his victory speech. Patrick added he's proud to be from East Texas, where his roots are.
"My earliest inspirations of songwriting are here. I performed my current single Montana moon, and now I get to take it out of my Texas orbit. This Josie Music Awards introduced me. It's not just nationwide, it's worldwide," Patrick said. "So when I stood up for that, when I called my name, I just looked around at my friends, and it was an emotional moment because they're like, 'you did it, man.'"
