TRINITY, Texas — An East Texas man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felonies.
According to Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace, Treyvaun Demorris Corneilus Crawford, of Trinity, pleaded guilty to two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and one count of sexual assault.
Per East Texas News, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Crawford was driving a van at an unsafe speed with two passengers, a 14-year-old and 15-year-old on Hwy. 94 in Trinity, when he tried to take a curve. The van then went into a ditch, hit a tree and overturned.
The children were pronounced dead at the scene. Crawford was taken to a Houston-area hospital for treatment.
Officials say Crawford was drunk at the time of the crash.
During the investigation, Sheriff Wallace said information was discovered on the cell phone of one of the deceased children that Crawford had been having a sexual relationship with the child.
Sheriff Wallace says Crawford denied those allegations during interviews with law enforcement, but ultimately pleaded guilty to the charge.
