East Texas man hopeful for kidney donor from community

The owner of Catch Me If You Can is looking for community support after her husband was diagnosed with stage five kidney failure.

TYLER, Texas — A local family-owned restaurant is hoping to get their prayers answered after receiving life-changing news concerning the owner’s health. 

The owner of Catch Me If You Can is looking for community support after her husband was diagnosed with stage five kidney failure.

Amanda Longacre’s husband, Casey, currently has a kidney only functioning at 13 percent.

"He's just been in the hospital and the doctors, and it's all happened so quickly in the last few months to where he's now on the transplant list," Longacre said.

Amanda said this isn’t the first time she’s had to witness diabetes take a toll on her family member.

"I lost my mom two years ago, to diabetes as well. So it's, it's put a strain on us mentally, emotionally and physically," Longacre said.

Although her mom and now husband can’t physically be at the restaurant, she keeps their presence alive by filling the walls with pictures of them. 

Amanda brought the news to her Facebook page and has received the upmost support from the East Texas community.

"I told him, I said, there's so many people out here who love you, and, and they want to see you better. He has shown so much appreciation to the people who have stepped up and have offered to see if they're a match for him," Longacre said.

Amanda said beginning next month he will start the dialysis process while they wait for a hopeful donor.

"When you have a community that loves you, it shows you that you don't want to give up no matter what struggles you go through. if anyone does feel led to see if they're a match, that would be a I would owe them forever," Longacre said.
