HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas — An East Texas man was sentenced to 50 years Friday after he was found guilty of killing a man and burying him in a hand-dug grave in Henderson County.
Steven Clowdus, 42, was found guilty of murder, tampering with evidence and tampering with a human corpse following a trial. After the verdict, the jurors later sentenced to 50 years in prison for each charge, according to Henderson County judicial records.
Steven Clowdus along with his son Dalan Clowdus, 25, and William David Hux were all arrested in May 2022 in connection with the disappearance and death of Jimmy Dean Oldfield, according to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.
Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said Oldfield was shot and killed, and he was then buried in a hand-dug grave on his property. Hillhouse also said Oldfield's truck in several pieces at another residence off of Highway 85 outside of Seven Points. The truck was cut into several pieces.
Oldfield was had been missing since May 11,2022 and the case was reported to authorities four days later. Law enforcement was told the location of the person's truck and body. While searching, investigators found a hand-dug grave containing an unidentified body. Oldfield's body was sent for an autopsy.
Henderson County judicial records show Dalan Clowdus and Hux's charges are pending with their upcoming court appearances set for next week.
