East Texas man sentenced to life in prison for aggravated child sexual assault

UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas — An East Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for multiple counts of child sexual assault.

According to the Upshur County District Attorney's Office, Walter Bartram, II, 50, was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. He was also convicted on numerous counts of sexual assault of a separate child.

District Judge Dean Fowler sentence Bartram to life in prison and he must serve forty years before he is eligible for parole.

On Jan. 5, 2020, one of the victims went to the Upshur County Sheriff's Office to report Bartram had sexually assaulted them. An investigation was opened and officials say they discovered a second victim, and learned the sexual assaults occurred multiple times between 2006-2011.

Both victims testified against Bartram and disclosed the impact the assaults have had on their lives.

The jury returned a guilty verdict on all counts and sentencing will occur at a later date.
