OFFICIALS: East Texas man arrested after provoking, beating neighbor's dog with bat

Jason Washington was booked into the Panola County Jail.

TATUM, Texas — An East Texas man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting his neighbor's pet dog with a baseball bat.

According to the Tatum Police Department, officers responded to a residence off Hendrick's Lake Rd. after the homeowner said a man came onto her property and hit her dog with a bat.

The homeowner said the man provoked the dog by throwing sticks at it and the homeowner told the man to get off her property. He reportedly came back later and beat her dog with a bat to the point the dog had to go to the veterinarian.

A Tatum officer and Panola County deputy went to the neighboring home and spoke with Jason R. Washington who admitted to hitting the dog.

Washington was arrested and booked into the Panola County Jail for animal cruelty. His bond has not been set.
