POLICE: East Texas gang member accused of shooting man in leg during armed robbery arrested

CBS19 is working to get more details and we will update this story as more information becomes available.

TYLER, Texas — Documents allege an East Texas teen was among four gang members accused of shooting a man in the leg during a planned marijuana sale in November.

Jessiah McNeil, 19, remains in the Smith County Jail Tuesday on three counts of aggravated robbery, one count of engaging in organized criminal activity, one count of possession of marijuana and one count of unlawful carrying of a weapon following his arrest on Monday night, according to jail records.

According to an arrest affidavit, McNeil was one of four people involved in a Nov. 2 robbery that left another man shot in the leg. Jail records do not show that the other three men mentioned in the document have been arrested yet. Investigators identified all four of them as members of the West Side Rollin 60's Crips.

The victim of the shooting told police he gave his stepson and his friend a ride to meet with someone who owned the stepson money. The victim said he did not know what his stepson's business with the four men was, but he realized that the men wanted to rob them, the affidavit read.

The victim reported that one of the men put a gun to his head and said, "you are about to die, give me everything." The victim refused, and the men's rifles would not fire. So the victim put the car in reserve and backed up to escape, but the men then started shooting at the car and hit him in the leg, the document read.

In an interview, the victim's stepson revealed that the meeting was about McNeil purchasing a half pound of marijuana for $750 from the stepson. But the sale became a robbery, the affidavit said.

Further investigation and police lineups led to police identifying McNeil and the three others as the suspects. The detective also determined that all four of the men are connected to the West Side Rollin 60's Crips.
