TYLER, Texas — The East Texas Lighthouse announced it is celebrating White Cane Day on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bergfeld Park in Tyler.
White Cane day was started by President Lyndon B. Johnson and celebrates the achievements of the blind and visually impaired using the symbol of the cane.
“We’re excited to host the White Cane Safety Day event for our community again this year,” Community Relations Administrator for the East Texas Lighthouse Craig Ellis said. “We enjoyed a great turnout last year and love the opportunity to showcase how blind and visually impaired individuals can live and work independently while contributing to their communities.”
The event will host games, music and food trucks for those in attendance. The public is welcome, free of charge.
