TYLER, Texas — A beloved East Texas furniture store is closing after nearly 50 years in business.
Benny and Merri Jones, owners of the The Wood Shed, announced they would be holding a going out of business sale before shutting its doors.
According to their website, The Wood Shed first opened in 1976 under the name Can Do Furniture.
"Merri's uncle and aunt, Jake and Betty, purchased the business in March of 1980 and changed the name to The Wood Shed," the website said. "Jake and Betty decided to retire and hand over the business to Benny and Merri on January, 1, 1990."
The Wood Shed features an 8,000 sq. ft. showroom and warehouse.
"It is with mixed emotions after 34 years Merri and Benny have decided to close their store and retire," The Wood Shed posted on Facebook. "We extend our deepest gratitude to them for their unwavering dedication in transforming houses into homes. Also known as 'Pappi, Coach and Master Finisher,' Benny has left an indelible mark, making your furniture uniquely yours.
