East Texas free summer food program continues across area parks

The East Texas Food Bank is making sure kids at parks get the nutrients they need

TYLER, Texas — East Texas Food Bank's Summer food program continues to serve children across the area to make sure they're hydrated and have a nutritious meal this summer, while enjoying what kids love to do: play outdoors at parks.

"They get so bored at my house cause as you can tell I’m an older parent, and it’s just hard to keep them entertained, so when I got the advertisement on Facebook, and I looked into it I thought it’ll be perfect," Lisa Seagroves, who has a child participating in the program, said.

Seagroves has been taking advantage of the program all summer.

"They provide lunches, they provide breakfast, and not so much for us, but it is a blessing for us, but for other people who do not have the resources for breakfast and lunch, they’re getting that assistance," Seagroves said.

Even with all the summer fun, this heat is not to be played around with. City of Tyler Playground Aide Ladeshia Willis says it’s been fulfilling to see parents take advantage of the free meals all summer at parks.

"It's important because, some people don’t get to eat a lot at home and it provides more nutrients to the kids that don't get enough meals that don’t have anything to eat or don’t have anything to eat at home," Willis said.

For most kids like Aaliyah, they look forward to coming to park and spending time outside with friends and a delicious lunch.

"I'm most grateful that we have lunch together," Aaliyah Aycock said.
