East Texas first responders, volunteers rescue kitten trapped in storm drain

The kitten has now been named Stormy and the cutie will soon head to a new home after receiving a check-up at Marshall Pet Adoption Center.

MARSHALL, Texas — A kitten who was trapped inside a storm drain in Marshall is now safe thanks to dedicated first responders.

On Thursday, the Marshall Police Department received several calls about a kitten stuck in a storm drain near Highway 59 and Houston Street. Animal Control officers came on to the scene, but the kitten's roaming skills allowed it to stay out of reach.

Then, volunteers with Friends of Marshall Animals and the Trap and Release team set a trap and some food in the storm drain to help get the kitty out.

Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, Marshall police officers found the kitten in the trap, and that's when officer Marshall Duncan stepped in to save the day. He maneuvered through the storm drain, picked up the trap and rescued the kitten.
