Longview Fire Department confirms suspicious substance wasn't fentanyl, removes photo from Facebook

After posting the photo, Longview Fire said they learned the investigating agency has not confirmed if fentanyl was in the candy or not.

LONGVIEW, Texas — The Facebook post from the Longview Fire Department showing a photo of candy they believed had fentanyl has been removed pending more information.

The department shared a photo of a bag of candy on Friday, believing the  “candy” tested positive for fentanyl. After posting the photo, Longview Fire said they learned the investigating agency has not confirmed if fentanyl was in the candy or not.  They were also unable to identify where the photo was actually taken.

"In an effort to be transparent and factual in the information we provide to the public, we felt it was prudent to remove the post from our Facebook page pending more information. We will update our post if that information is made available to our department," the latest Facebook post read.

The department again warned the public to be aware of the dangers of fentanyl and told people to call 911 if they've been exposed to fentanyl or any other illicit drug.
